Who is there to help you? (📖&📹)

At the university, there are multiple contact persons and teams available to help you with your study career, but also your personal life. In this section, we will introduce you to some of these options.

Academic advisor
Student counselor
Student psychologist
Student mentor

Academic advisor
The Academic advisors are the first point of contact whenever you have personal or study related issues, questions about your program, regulations or you're not sure where to go. They can also refer you to other resources if needed. The academic advisors are not involved in the reviewing or assessment of student’s performance and therefore neutral within the department. Naturally, a confidential approach to personal matters discussed is guaranteed. For more info, check the following page.

Student mentor
In your first year, you will get guidance from a student mentor. This is a second or third-year bachelor's student. They will help you with all your practical issues that may arise. You will meet with your mentor multiple times throughout the year in both an individual and group setting. You can reach out to your mentor whenever you have any questions, they are your first contact point! Read a short introduction of one of our mentors below.

Student psychologist
If you feel overwhelmed by personal issues, you can ask for help from the student psychologist. They can assist you with mental health concerns. Do not hesitate to reach out for support. They will guide you to the help you need. More information about the student psychologists can be found on this page.

Student counselor
Student counselors provide information and advice about a range of matters not directly related to the content of your study program. The student counselor can advise you, act as an intermediary, or refer you to other (external) services. You could, for example, discuss the following issues:

Study grants
Financial support due to study delay caused by extenuating circumstances
Enrollment and termination of enrollment
Postponement of the binding recommendation on the continuation of studies (BSA)
Administrative grants Lodging a complaint or objection, or starting an appeal procedure
Provisions for studying with a functional impairment or chronic illness
Combining study with top-level sports

Career academy
The TU/e Career Academy supports students in awareness and development of what kind of an engineer they want to be. The Career Academy offers a wide range of skill- and career activities to choose from:

Career workshops and activities;
Individual career coaching;
CV, cover letter en LinkedIn check.

Study management advisor
Studying demands considerable independence and discipline. If you are not satisfied with your study progress or if your exam results are disappointing, then the TU/e can help you improve your study output. Study management consists of various forms of support: you can make use of individual coaching from one of the study management advisors, or work in a group. Next to that, you can participate in trainings which focus on specific subjects.

Study choice coach
The study choice coach can help you with questions about the study choice process. Questions can be related to doubts you have about your present, or future choice of study, and about figuring out what to choose. Moreover, it is also possible to discuss and get insight into, which studies best match your interests and abilities together with the study choice coach.

Confidential Contact Person (Peer listener)
Student life at TU/e can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster of experiences. To help you navigating all that and prevent you're feeling lost, we have confidential contact persons (also known as 'peer listeners') at our university. These are students that have been trained and can help you figure out who to contact or what kind of support you might benefit from. As you can see, there are a lot of different parties, teams, and people at this university. Therefore, it is totally understandable that you do not know who the contact is for what type of questions. The flowchart below can help you with this. And if you still don't know who to contac, just reach out to your Academic Advisor!
